Shared Pawar, is an over ambitious person, everyone knows about his political skills. His recent meeting with Prashant Kishore in Mumbai (agenda nobody knows) created a buzz in political circles, presumably this meeting is for a national alliance of regional parties to figh the forthcoming loksabha elections.
Political turning points in Sharad Pawar’s political journey, in 1978 he betrayed his mentor Vasant Dada Patil, formed Indian National Congress (Socialist) became chief minister of Maharashtra his tenure last for 1 year 214 days. He merged
Indian National Congress (Socialist) in 1986 with Indian National Congress and he resumed as chief minister in 1988. After midterm loksabha elections in 1991 he was the front runner for PM’s post however fortune didn’t favoured him he became Defence Minister of India. In 1993 post Babri masjid demolition riots Mr. P. V. Narsimha Rao send back Mr. Pawar as Maharashtra’s chief minister. In 1995 under his leadership congress lost power in Maharashtra to Sena-Bjp alliance, thereafter Sharad Pawar was powerless at state as well as at centre because non-Congress alliance were ruling.
He didn’t lost his hope and ambitions to become prime minister of India, during this period he along with some congress leaders rake-up Sonia Gandhi’s foreign origin issue and left congress and in June 1999 formed Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and ruled Maharashtra as junior partner of Indian National Congress for 15 years. During this period he was Agriculture Minister in Dr. Manmohan Singh government.
Now let me deal with the SP & PK’s meeting it is obvious reason that Sharad Pawar wants to be a PM as all his previous attempts failed. Unfortunately his age and health is not on his side, he has good friends and connect across political spectrum but doubted his trustworthiness, this is do or die situation for him. People murmured about forming the regional parties alliance without congress which looks like a day dreaming as no regional party has a leadership with national appeal.
Let’s be optimistic about the regional alliance, to begin with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Sharad Pawar as its leader ruled Maharashtra with congress for 15, Pawar made his all-out attempts to become national leader but his acceptance as national leader is insignificant. Take example of Mamata Banerjee, she is ruling WB for third time she never made any attempts to become national leader. Similar is the case of Navin Patnaik he is ruling Orissa since almost two decades his presence too never counted at national level.
M. K. Stalin first time TN CM, H. D. Devegowda failed PM, Jagan Mohan Reddy, K. Chandrashekar Rao, take any leader from any regional party across India or across indian political spectrum no leader has a national stature, appeal or acceptance. Yes the regional parties has every right to form a front but without congress the purpose to defeat BJP is defeated.
It is premature to debate on national alliance with regional parties, yes Sharad Pawar has liberty to engage and keep himself busy.
